I was very excited when I first learned about Imeem.com. Over the years I’ve turned friends on to new bands, but it’s hard to share music without making direct copies of it. So rather than post songs for download I decided to use Imeem.com.
The site is like the MySpace of music sharing sites. Users can post any song they want and if you sign up for a free account and login you can stream any song on the site. There are probably more than 2 million songs on the site.
I put together a couple groups such as a Starflyer 59 group and you can find the other groups and songs I’ve posted on the site here. I’ve posted music from Larry Norman, Atari Champ, Sleeping At Last, The Violet Burning, Sufjan Stevens, Starflyer 59, Joy Electric, Relient K, MxPx, The Fold, The Smoking Popes, Duvall, Keith Green, Joe Christmas, Poor Old Lu, The Prayer Chain, Vroom and Refuge (members of North and The Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria). It is a similar assortment of songs if I had to travel to a desert island with an iPod.
Some of the highlights include the Keith Green pre-Christian album called “Keith Green Live,” the Dance House Children “Rainbow Rider” Dazzling Music Vol. 1. and various Starflyer 59 bootlegs such as live at Schubas.
I know that the majority of people logging on to Imeem are teens, but the amount of music available makes it worth checking out regardless of your age. One downside is that certain tracks can only be heard in 30 second snippets when added to a playlist, but there is so much music to be heard and it’s free. All you have to do is invest five minutes to sign up and then you can listen to whatever you like.
